RAVES

DANCES / PARTIES

We in the police department are very concerned about a new trend we are seeing in drug use that is affecting a whole new group of people. The drug known as Ecstasy is becoming widely available and used in Utah. The biggest problem with the distribution of this drug is that it is being introduced to kids attending parties, which are commonly referred to as RAVE'S. RAVES are often held illegally without the knowledge of local officials. Health and sanitary conditions are poor at best. Attendees are charged up to $60 each to attend plus from $12 to $40 per pill for the Ecstasy drug and $3 to $5 per bottle for water. Music is played at sound levels that may damage your hearing.

In many cases, we are seeing parents actually taking their kids and dropping them off at these parties. There seems to be a mistaken belief that these RAVE parties are safe and wholesome activities for young people. This could not be further from the truth! The drug Ecstasy, also known as MDMA or the "love drug" is widely used and available at these parties. Several deaths have been linked to these drugs. In addition, samples that have been confiscated of this drug have been found to be adulterated with cocaine, heroin, LSD, Drano and other dangerous and deadly chemicals. The drug Ecstasy is believed to be addictive and leads to use of other dependency drugs.

It appears that a whole new sub-culture of people are becoming users of these drugs. They hold the mistaken belief that using Ecstasy does not make them an illegal drug user. This is wrong. Anyone in possession of these drugs will be arrested and charged with the offense. Because of this mistaken belief, we are concerned that the number of illegal drug users will now skyrocket.

We would encourage all of our residents to get the facts on this new and deadly group of drugs. We would also encourage you to keep your children away from any parties where you are not sure of who is attending or what they will be doing. If you find that you child is in possession of baby pacifiers, brightly colored clothing, glow sticks and other unusual paraphernalia, they may be involved in these activities. The very people selling the drugs sponsor most of the parties. If you become aware of such a party being held in our area, please call us immediately.
