The "Crime Free Multi Housing Program" (CFMH) was first organized in 1996. Since then, this valuable program has continued to help reduce the illegal activity occurring in rental units and has become a very successful tool for the community.

CFMH is a combined effort of the apartment owners, managers, tenants, and the police department in an effort to fight crime and raise the standards of living in Midvale City. This union is critical in fighting crime in rental units. Apartment owners, managers, and tenants are taking on responsibilities of working with the police in fighting crime.

The concepts of Crime Free Multi Housing are simply put: train apartment owners and managers in methods to keep criminal activity out of their complex, and train tenants on things to watch for and ways to protect themselves. Owners and managers are trained in screening techniques, eviction procedures, and things to watch for in identifying criminal activity. They are encouraged to utilize a "Crime Free Lease Addendum" that will assist them in removing tenants who have violated the law. There is a communication union formed between the management and the police. This union is the key to making this program work.

Midvale Police provide training to the owners, managers, and maintenance personnel. The participation of the rental property personnel is vital. After the personnel attend this training and demonstrate that they are utilizing the concepts that they are taught they can become certified in this program.

This program has proved to make Midvale a better place to live and work. It has improved the quality of living, both inside the rental units and the area's surrounding the units. Our goal is to continue to provide this valuable resource to our community.
